Hello there! My name is Chrisy and I’m a thirty-something Virginian that calls Phoenix, Arizona my home. I’m an avid gamer that loves good movies and paranormal novels.
I share a house with my husband and 6 (yes, s-i-x) animals: 2 cats and 4 dogs. The cats are low key and the dogs are small. The boyfriend is handsome and somehow finds my quirkiness endearing.
I run everything for this website, from the designing to the writing to the (hopefully tasty!) photography. I hope you like what you find here! If you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear ’em.
More About Homemade Hooplah
In July 2014, I walked away from a stable office job in order to do “something else” with my life. At the time I had no idea what that something might be, and in some ways I still don’t. But I have plenty of dreams of what it could be, of what I hope it will be, and now I finally have a chance to dive in head first. The only requirement I had going in was that whatever path I chose must allow me to be creative. Whether it be writing a novel, getting back into photography, or the thousands of craft projects I long to do, I needed to find my happiness again and I’m happiest when I can create.
I also had some pretty big promises to fill. In exchange for taking a risk on a new career, I promised the aforementioned handsome boyfriend that I would (finally) learn to cook and make good on all my home improvement projects. One look at my Pinterest account and you’ll see just how tall of an order that will be to fill.
In a nutshell, this is how Homemade Hooplah was born. This website will provide me with the creative outlet I crave while giving me a place to document all of my successes (and failures!) as I whittle my way down a seemingly endless to-do list.
As for the name, “Hooplah” is an handle I’ve used online for more than 10 years, primarily in the online games I play. I also do graphic design projects under the name All That Hooplah. It’s become a part of my online identity, and a part of who I am in some ways, so it seemed fitting to include it as part of this new endeavor.
Truth be told, it’s been a while since I’ve done this whole “website thing.” I kept an online journal from 1998 until 2004, at which time my posts started to come annually instead of daily. It was a whole different world back when, and getting this website up and running has been a bit like learning to ride a bike again. As part of that process, I try to write weekly updates about how this crazy quit-my-job-and-risk-it-all-on-a-website idea is going.
More About Chrisy
These days I fancy myself an entrepreneur, but really I’m just a girl who created a website to blog about recipes, DIY projects, and wrangling a herd of small dogs. I’m hoping I can turn it into a new career.
As for more personal details: I take pride in the fact that I am a nerd. I’ve played more online games than I can count (which does include quite a few years in World of Warcraft – damnit, Blizzard, why can’t quit you?). I occasionally like to stream my gameplay on Twitch, though not many viewers stick around to watch me obsessively collect achievements. I’m typically ingame under the names Hooplah, Dutha, Foonkah, or Chalulu. If you see me around, feel free to say hello.
When I’m not gaming, I’m usually binge watching Netflix or googling the latest news on Star Wars Episode VII. You have no idea how ready I am to dress up for premier night. I’m thinking Zabrak.
