"Reminiscing and making new memories with game night and Red Baron Pizza!"
Do you have any party traditions? Anything fun you always do when friends and family are around? Or, better yet, any sort of food you routinely have with you’re hanging out with your closest and dearest?
The Husband and I were just talking about this, and for me, the answer by far is pizza. Because when isn’t pizza the perfect answer to your feed-a-crowd-quickly needs? It’s been that way for as long as I can remember, even back to when I was little.
Who doesn’t remember going to a pizza party like this?
See that girl near the front rocking the all-pink outfit? That’s me. And I’m pretty sure I was crying. Probably because we were busy taking photos instead of serving up the pizza.
Now, I didn’t discover the wonder that is Red Baron pizza until I was older, but it’s become my go-to solution for whenever we have company over and I’d rather be spending my time socializing (that’s the point, right?) than cooking. And lately, when we have company over it’s because we’re hosting our weekly game night. Because little did that girl in stylish pink outfit know but she would grow up to be a huge big nerd. I’m not even kidding; I’m a paranormal-novel-reading, Star-Wars-loving, what’s-the-next-Marvel-movie nerd, and I’m happiest when I’m playing games – computer MMOs, console, board games, you name it. The more I can lose myself in a story and a strategy the happier I’ll be.
I’ve been fortunate enough to collect a good group of friends (and a husband!) who share the same love for nerdy gaming, and it’s become our tradition to get together each week
to prove to each other who is the most leet to play a few games. We used to have LAN parties, lugging our entire computers to each other’s houses and setting up on fold-out tables in the living room, but these days we’re happy to play a few board games or maybe – just maybe, if the Dungeon Master is willing – we might play a few rounds of Dungeons and Dragons. I’m still a little new to the land of D&D, but at least my dice game is on point.
So every Friday night our friends get together to battle dragons or work out the best placement strategy in Katan, and as you can imagine, all that thinking (and laughing and talking and maybe a little yelling over the rulebook) makes a person hungry. And you know what is almost always our meal of choice? Pizza. Because, pizza. It needs no introduction.
Pop a Red Baron pizza in the oven, cook for twenty minutes, and we have all the fuel we need to get through the next few rounds!
Red Baron comes in so many flavors, but my crew tends to prefer the ultra classic cheese and pepperoni. And who can blame them? It’s a classic!
So once the pizza is done, we get back to business… and I hope that when the time comes for my ranger to save the day, stealthily climbing up the keep wall to get the perfect kill shot on the dragon, that my favorite D20 doesn’t roll a 1.
