Hello there! My name is Chrisy and I’m a thirty-something Virginian that calls Phoenix, Arizona my home. I’m an avid gamer that loves good movies and paranormal novels.
I share a house with my husband and 6 (yes, s-i-x) animals: 2 cats and 4 dogs. The cats are low key and the dogs are small. The husband is handsome and somehow finds my quirkiness endearing.
I run everything for this website, from the designing to the writing to the (hopefully tasty!) photography. I hope you like what you find here! If you have any suggestions, I’d love to hear ’em.
More About Homemade Hooplah
In July 2014, I walked away from a stable office job in order to do “something else” with my life. At the time I had no idea what that something might be – and, in some ways, I still don’t. But I have plenty of dreams of what it could be, of what I hope it will be, and now I finally have a chance to dive in head first. The only requirement I had going in was that whatever path I chose must allow me to be creative. Whether it be writing a novel, getting back into photography, or the thousands of craft projects I long to do, I needed to find my happiness again and I’m happiest when I can create.
I also had some pretty big promises to fill. In exchange for taking a risk on a new career, I promised the aforementioned handsome husband that I would (finally) learn to cook and make good on all my home improvement projects. One look at my Pinterest account and you’ll see just how tall of an order that will be to fill.
In a nutshell, this is how Homemade Hooplah was born. This website will provide me with the creative outlet I crave while giving me a place to document all of my successes (and failures!) as I whittle my way down a seemingly endless to-do list.
As for the name, “Hooplah” is a handle I’ve used online for more than 15 years, primarily in the online games I play. I also do graphic design projects under the name All That Hooplah. It’s become a part of my online identity, and even part of who I am in some ways, so it seemed fitting to include it as part of this new endeavor.
Truth be told, it’s been a while since I’ve done this whole “website thing.” I kept an online journal from 1998 until 2004, at which time my posts started to come annually instead of daily. It was a whole different world back then, and getting a website up and running was like learning to ride a bike again.
What You’ll Find Here
When it comes to the content on this website, I can guarantee you this one truth that will always be 100% on point:
I love food as much as you do.
But can you guess what I don’t particularly love? What I’ll only do because it is the means to an end of obtaining that delicious food?
Cooking and baking.
That’s right, I admit it – I love flavorful meals and dishes, but I don’t particularly love the chore of making it a reality. And you know what? I’m going out on a limb here, but I’ll bet many of you feel the exact same way.
I’m here to tell you that’s totally okay!
If anything, this is what I hope I’ll be able to help you with. Because between you and me, I am not a master chef or whiz in the kitchen – and furthermore, I doubt I ever will be – but if my two left spatulas can make any of the recipes pictured on this site then I’m certain that you can, too. From one culinary inept to another, I promise to pick recipes that we can tackle and write instructions that are clear and easy to follow. I’ll do my best to give you realistic cooking times and provide alternative ingredients if something is hard to find.
In other words, I’m here to show you that you can make all the food you see Pinterest, no matter what your skill level is. Together, we’ll take a bite out of the hype.
More About Chrisy
These days I fancy myself an entrepreneur, but underneath it all, I’m just a girl, sitting in front of her laptop, asking it to make her dreams come true. So far I haven’t been disappointed, and a big part of that is thanks to readers like you.
As for more personal details: I take pride in the fact that I am a nerd. I’ve played more online games than I can count (which does include quite a few years in World of Warcraft – damnit, Blizzard, why can’t quit you?) I occasionally like to stream my gameplay on Twitch, though not many viewers stick around to watch me obsessively collect achievements. I’m typically ingame under the names Hooplah, Dutha, Soojah, Foonkah, or Chalulu. If you see me around, feel free to say hello!
When I’m not gaming, I’m usually binge watching Netflix, googling the latest news on Star Wars, or having unusually long conversations with my army of small dogs. They give great advice.
