What is bunny bait?

Also called Easter crack or funfetti popcorn, bunny bait is typically a mix of popped popcorn, pretzels, and candy that’s coated in white chocolate and then decorated with festive candy melts and sprinkles.

What toppings can you add to funfetti popcorn?

In addition to using the traditional M&M’s and pretzels, you can also try adding some of the following candy for spring fling flair:

  • Reese’s pieces
  • Small gum drops or gummy bears
  • Candy eggs
  • Nuts (peanuts, walnuts, cashews, etc)

When it comes to no bake treats like this, there are a few tools that always come in handy:

  • Small microwave-safe mixing bowls for eating up the candy melts.
  • A large mixing bowl for stirring all the ingredients together.
  • A spatula or large spoon for stirring.
  • Parchment paper.
  • A large baking sheet (ideally 18 x 13 or similar)

How long is bunny bait good for?

Once prepared, bunny bait can be stored in a sealed container or bag on the counter for up to five days.

Notes & tips for bunny bait

  • When making this recipe, you’ll need a big mixing bowl so you have enough room to maneuver and stir. I own a 13-quart mixing bowl for this very reason.
  • Not only is this recipe great for any spring holiday or event, but it’s also easy to make. However, you do need to be quick, so make sure you have all of your ingredients ready before getting started.

Bunny Bait

Time: 15 minutes prep + 1 hour cooling
Servings: 20 pieces
Sometimes called bunny bait or Easter crack, this funfetti popcorn is a spring-themed snack mix of pastel-colored candy, sprinkles, and freshly popped popcorn.

Ingredients

  • 8 cup popped popcorn, about 1/2 cup unpopped
  • 12 ounce pastel M&M’s
  • 1 1/2 cup pretzels, each piece broken in half
  • 2 cup white candy melts
  • 1/2 cup sprinkles, any festive style
  • 1 cup colorful candy melts, optional

Instructions

  • Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper, then set nearby.
  • Place popped popcorn in a large mixing bowl (I used a 13-quart mixing bowl), then add M&M’s and pretzels on top.
  • In a microwave-safe medium bowl, heat the white candy melts per package instructions until smooth.
  • Pour candy melts over the popcorn mixture, then use a spatula to quickly (but gently!) toss and stir until the candy melts have coated all of the ingredients. Be careful not to stir too long; you don’t want the candy melts to harden yet.
  • Transfer coated popcorn mixture to prepared baking sheet and spread out into an even layer.
  • While candy melts are still wet, sprinkle with festive sprinkles as desired. If you’d like to add more color, heat some colorful candy melts and drizzle them on top of the bunny bait.
  • Let bunny bait dry completely (about 1 hour), then use your hands to gently break it apart into snack-sized pieces.
  • Bunny bait can be stored at room temperature in sealed bags or a container for up to 5 days.
