"An edible version of the famous cocktail, these pretzel bars combine orange and grenadine tequila spiked cream with a crunchy sweet pretzel crust."
It’s spring, which means summer is on its way. And since summer leads to fun and fun happens with tequila (!), it makes sense to start planning a festive menu for your next warm-weather bash, right?
Introducing: Tequila Sunrise Pretzel Bars, a sweet, cool snack that’s perfect to serve at parties as the weather heats up and the sun goes down.
They’re basically an edible version of the famous cocktail, but with a twist. Starting with tequila-spiked cream, half the batch is blended with orange juice, the other with grenadine.
The two flavors are layered over a salty-sweet pretzel crust, then chilled.
The end result is a fruity, creamy treat that will have guests feeling refreshed… and maybe even a little buzzed!
Don’t worry, these bars aren’t as boozy as the mixed drink, and the alcohol taste isn’t overpowering as long as you use a good-quality brand.
I love Los Altos Tequila because of its smooth flavor, plus the sweetness of the slow-cooked agave compliments dessert dishes.
You’ll love making these bars before get-togethers because they’re simple to whip up and they’re beautiful! I add food coloring to make the orange and red layers pop, and the end result looks like a batch of bite-sized sunsets (or sunrises, if you’re really wild and crazy.
Wait… is that where the name of the drink comes from?. Prep time is about 30 minutes, and since they take about 8 hours to firm up, you can continue the rest of your planning after you’ve popped them into the freezer.
I can imagine serving these treats at a backyard soiree with music blaring and tiki lamps flickering. They’re easy finger-foods to nibble while standing, and can be held in one hand so guests can hold an Altos Manhattan in the other (and talk about a perfect pairing).
At the mere mention of “tequila,” guests will be swarming to sample one of these festive bars!
I can’t wait to try Tequila Sunrise Pretzel Bars at my next warm-weather gathering.
Those balmy nights may still be a ways away, but the flavors of summer have already arrived in my kitchen!
