About Fluffy S’mores Dip

As we make our way from summer to fall, certain things we love about the summer months begin to fall out of fashion. Camping, bathing suits, grilling, campfires, s’mores – they all start to go by the wayside as the weather gets cooler.

But what if you didn’t have to give those things up?

What if you could enjoy bathing suites and s’mores well into next year?

If that sounds good to you, then I have great news!

Well, okay, I guess I’ve only got good news if you’re a fan of summer because of hot roasted s’mores. But that’s still awesome, right?

I haven’t given up on figuring out the whole “bathing suit in the dead of winter” part, but until I work out the kinks, we can all pass the time by snacking on this all-year-friendly fluffy s’mores dip.

Chilled dessert dip that tastes like s'mores.

So, by now I bet you’re wondering: What makes this s’mores treat so good for 365 days of the year?

Well, for one, there’s absolutely no baking, melting, or fire involved. You don’t need to worry about whether it’s too cold to sit outside or if it’s too hot to turn on your oven. This dip can be served chilled or simply at room temperature.

And for two, you can customize this dip to fit any time of year.

Of course, you’ll need graham crackers to be in line with a classic s’more, but you can also jazz this dip up with fresh strawberries and bananas for dipping. You could even use gingerbread during the holiday months.

Basically, anything that goes well with chocolate and marshmallow would be perfect to cover with this dip.

And, finally, I was pleasantly surprised by how fluffy and creamy this dip turned out to be. It reminds me a lot of my Cadbury Creme Egg Dip recipe from a few months back, in that not only is it insanely delicious, but it’s also fun.

I could easily spend all evening just hunting around for the hidden mini marshmallows.

notes & tips for this no bake s’mores dip

  • Whipping homemade cream can sometimes be tricky, so I always recommend you use cream that is extremely fresh (just opened for the first time) and that it is very chilled. Either wait to remove the cream from the refrigerator until just before you’re ready to whip OR you can set the cream in the freezer for 15 minutes before use. I’ve also heard of people freezing their whisk attachments or mixing bowls, especially if your bowl is metal, glass, or porcelain. Every little bit helps!
  • For this recipe, I highly recommend using a stand mixer or a hand mixer. This isn’t a recipe you can make by hand with a whisk.

Fluffy marshmallow and homemade chocolate cream are swirled together to make this easy and fun dessert dip. Plus, it's a no-bake recipe, so no heating required!

Ingredients

Instructions

  • Using a stand mixer (or hand mixer + large bowl), blend together 4 ounces cream cheese, 1/2 cup powdered sugar, and the marshmallow creme on high speed until smooth, about 1-2 minutes. If using mini marshmallows, turn off mixer and add about 3/4 cup in with the marshmallow mixture, then gently stir with a spatula. Set bowl aside.
8 ounces cream cheese, 1 cup powdered sugar, 3.5 ounces marshmallow creme, 1 cup mini marshmallows
  • In another medium bowl, whip together remaining 1/2 cup powdered sugar, heavy whipping cream, and vanilla extract on high until stiff peaks form, about 3-5 minutes. Set whipped cream nearby.
1 cup powdered sugar, 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream, 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • In a new medium bowl, blend together remaining 4 oz cream cheese and cocoa powder on high until smooth, about 2-3 minutes. Add just-prepared whipped cream to bowl and mix on low until cream and chocolate are completely incorporated, about another 2-3 minutes.
8 ounces cream cheese, 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • To assemble the dip: Add fluffy marshmallow and chocolate dips to a single bowl, alternating between the two (TIP: alternate which side of the bowl you layer the flavors for a mixed looks). When the boil is full, use a spoon or butter knife to drag through the dip, swirling the colors together. Top the dip with the remaining 1/4 cup mini marshmallows.
  • Serve dip immediately with graham crackers for dipping.

Wow, this is good but so, so rich. The ratio of cocoa powder and cream cheese is too much for me. I doubled the recipe because I had a regular-sized container of marshmallow fluff (7 oz), but honestly I wish I had just used the full container and kept the rest of the recipe the same. I ended up adding more powdered sugar to cut some of the richness but now it’s just overly sweet and super rich 🙂. Of course, it could all just be down to user error, lol!

I made this for Christmas at my in laws and everyone loved it!

This is such a delicious dip! Thanks for the recipe!

Is the vanilla extract divided between the 2 mixtures? Also, does the remaining powdered sugar go into the chocolate mix? It looks delicious! I’m making it for the Super Bowl party tomorrow.

Would blended cottage cheese work as a substitute for the cream cheese?

This is a really great recipe as is but I’ve also adapted it into a sort of chocolate cream pie by whipping the cream, setting it aside, then combining the rest of the ingredients (I prefer minus the marshmallows) in my stand mixer. I whip it til smooth, add back in the whipped cream, and put in an Oreo crumb pie crust. I serve with sweetened whipped cream or Reddi-whip, and chocolate shavings and it has been a huge hit. Thanks for the recipe! 😀

My son and I just made this and it is pretty tasty. It does take quite a bit of work and yields only a small bowl. You might want to double it if taking to a big party.

Dumb question but would this dip be good for cake filling & on top of cupcakes?

      • Michelle

I just made this (without the whipping cream, it isn’t necessary) and after tasting thought it would make a great cupcake topping or cake filling.

    Hi,
Just found your site. I want to make this with my students for a reward. How much does this recipe make? Trying to decide if I need to double it or not. Thank you in advance!

      • Tracey

I would like to know also.

    • Sherri

Can you make this a day before?

      • Sherri

I read a bit more and found my answer
      Thank you

I want to make this and was wondering if the cocoa is unsweetened? Looks soooo yummy!

      • Chrisy

Hey Kim! Good catch, it should be unsweetened. I’ll update the recipe now 😀

    • Jackie

Hi! This looks really good, and I want to try it. I’m not familiar with “marshmallow fluff.” Is that the same thing as marshmallow creme?

    • Hey Jackie! I had to search around for this answer, but from what I’m reading, Fluff and cream should be the same thing. Marshmallow Fluff is just a specific brand of marshmallow creme.

    • Timi

Just made this for Super bowl party! Something sweet is always fun. I ll let you know how it goes.

I am having ladies over to watch “The Crown”. This sounds like a perfect nibble.
Crackers, cookies and fruit. However, do you use both Marshmallow fluff and mini marshmallows? Noted – the mini’s are optional. Also, a little concerned about the word “thaw” for the next day. Does that just mean not quite as cold or is it frozen?

    • Hey Judy! My wording is a little clumsy there, but it just means that since this recipe includes cream cheese, it’ll firm up in the fridge. If you refrigerate the dip, you’ll need to set it out so it softens again (like you would with cream cheese).

    • Abbey

Hi! How would you suggest keeping this warm for a party? Crock pot on low?

    • Hey Abbey! For this dip, it’s actually served chilled – so no need to worry about keeping it warm 🙂 This recipe has the s’mores flavor (marshmallow, chocolate, and graham crackers) but without the hassle of roasting or fire. If you’re serving this at a party where it will be sitting out for a while, you might want to use two bowls (one larger than the other) and fill the larger bowl with ice and set the smaller bowl with the dip in the middle. That way it’ll stay chilled.

    This s’mores dip looks good

    • Autumn

I had the same question of if it can be made a day ahead? I couldn’t find a reply and REALLY want to make it for my sons birthday.

    • Hey Autumn!

Yes, it should be fine to make the dip a day in advance – just leave some time to let the dip thaw a bit again before serving.

    • Dave H

The pictures had me hooked. But then I read the part about cream cheese. I really don’t like it – never have. Please tell me you know of a substitue so I can make this dip.

    • Hey Dave! I hear you on the cream cheese, but as far as consistency goes, I’m not sure there is a good substitution. For this recipe, the cream cheese is just there to thicken the dip, since all the other ingredients are either very sticky, liquid, or foamy. In truth, the cream cheese hardly brings any taste at all to the recipe. Greek yogurt is a common substitute for cream cheese, but in this case, I’m not sure it would be thick enough to do the dip justice – the dip would probably end up very watery and flat. Sorry! Wish I could be more of help 🙁

        • Cheryl

How about mascarpone cheese? You might try substituting it for the cream cheese.

      • Jennifer Morrow

Hi Dave h …..I am not a huge cream cheese fan either but what I do to tone down the kind of bitter or sourish taste is I either add a bit of vanilla or almond extract as well as more powdered sugar and it makes the recipes slot better for my taste…I just made 2 cheesecakes this week 1 strawberry and 1 blueberry and everyone absolutely devoured them ….They know I doctor mine up for the cream cheese taste and it really
does make all the difference in the world

While this recipe tasted great, I was pretty disappointed in the execution of it. In hindsight, I would suggest starting with step 2 (making the whipped cream) first and refrigerating your bowl and whisk attachment beforehand. I did not read ahead (completely my fault) and simply washed the bowl after the first step. Needless to say my whipped cream would not fluff up since I used a warm bowl. I would also then move to the chocolate mixture (step 3) and refrigerate that as well while going back to make step 1 (marshmallow fluff). Then combine the whipped cream and chocolate together carefully after that to keep it as fluffy as possible. I struggled to get the swirled effect described but it could have been because my whipped cream wasn’t how it should be. I ended up topping the whole thing with marshmallows to detract from how sad it looked.

Regardless, this is tasty and a fun and different dessert. Just wish I’d read ahead a little!
