About Funfetti Cake Batter Milkshake

I don’t know where it’s coming from, but for the past few weeks I’ve been all about the cool treats – ice cream, cheesecakes, you name it – so this funfetti cake batter milkshake was a matter of necessity.

These days, sugar just seems to taste better chilled. Maybe it’s because Phoenix has been enjoying some unseasonably warm weather, to the point where I can’t remember the last time I had to put on a jacket, and if you’ve read this far I know more than half of you are probably shooting daggers at me with your eyes.

I know the east coast just got a little more snow.

I’m sure it doesn’t help to know that I’m a little bit jealous of all your snow, and not just because it’s entirely likely that me and my frozen dessert obsession would be up for making snow ice cream.

But in all seriousness, if I could pack up some of this sunshine and send it your way, I totally would.

Especially when summer rolls around and it’s 120 degrees F here. When I feel like I might melt just by walking to my car, I’d be more than happy to send a degree to 10 your way.

So, where was I?

Oh, right.

Cool treats.

Desserts.

Sugar.

Milkshakes.

An easy cake batter milkshake recipe.

This recipe came about because I still had some leftover sprinkles and cake mix from a few other recipes I’ve made recently, and why let that go to waste?

In addition to chilled desserts, I’m all about the funfetti lately.

All those bright colors go a long way in bringing warm thoughts of spring and summer.

How to make a cake batter milkshake.

I know the weather has been a little unpredictable lately, so I’ll keep my fingers crossed that you’ll soon be spending your weekend like me, hanging out on your back porch with your dogs and leisurely sipping on a funfetti cake batter milkshake.

Please don’t hate me! xoxo

How to make cake batter milkshake

When it comes to curing your sweet cravings, a cake batter milkshake is one of the easiest things you can whip up.

All you need to do is add ice cream, milk, and dry cake mix to a food processor and blend until it becomes creamy perfection.

If you use funfetti cake mix, your shake will already have a festive look, but feel free to add even more sprinkles to the finished shake.\

Do you need to bake the cake mix?

Although it’s rare to become ill from consuming flour, it is considered a raw ingredient, so for proper food safety, the cake mix should be cooked before consumption because it includes flour.

To bake the cake mix: Spread the cake mix out on a baking sheet and bake it for five minutes at 350 degrees F.

Can you use out of date cake mix?

If you’re anything like me, recipes like this strike you on days when you don’t want to leave the house and you’re raiding your cabinets for options. And, inevitably, you’re going to run across something that looks fine but has a date that’s long since passed.

So, when it comes to expired cake mix, what do you do? Can you use it or not?

First off, make sure that the cake mix has been properly stored. This means that it’s been in a cool, dry place, and that either the seal is still intact or that it’s been stored in a sealed container since it was opened.

Once you confirm the storage, check the date printed on the package. Cake mix is typically good four to five months beyond the “best by” date.

If you have a product that’s older than this, I would not recommend using it for something like a milkshake. If you’d like to read more about the concerns of expired cake mix, check out this article.

  • You’ll need a trusty food processor for this recipe. I bought the Ninja Blender System almost 10 years ago and it hasn’t failed me yet!

Did this for Christmas with red and green sprinkles. Once done I put tree sprinkles on the top of them in the containers. Super cute and relatively easy.

Do you mix the cake batter up before putting it in or do you just pour in whats in the box?

    • Cryssi

I made this today with yellow cake mix, very delicious! I found it too thick at first so I added some light cream and then it was a creamy and more liquid consistency to my liking!

    • Thanks for the feedback, Cryssi! I’ll try adding the extra cream next time I make this 😀

    • Scot Mackenzie

Do you have to use that specific cake mix or will any cake mix do???

    • Hey Scot! Any flavor cake mix should work the same way 😀
