"Jack the dachshund gets away with sitting on a chair."
I feel I’m pretty strict with our dogs, because in my mind, they are all my little soldiers waiting for my next command. But that approach only works if both of the alphas in the house have the same philosophy, because otherwise the poor dogs get mixed signals on what to do. The Boyfriend does have rules for our dogs, but no where near the likes of me.
Case and point: the dogs have a habit of jumping up on the furniture uninvited. I will scold and correct any dog that does this in my presence, while The Boyfriend will love and snuggle on a dog that comes to visit unannounced. As you can probably guess, we drive each other nuts about it.
Yesterday evening, I watched as Jack jumped up on this patio chair – and then I did nothing about it. He got to stay there for two reasons: one, I was trying to get a picture of the dogs and this was the first time any of them had sat still for the past hour and two, Jack is my favorite. I’m not ashamed to admit it. Jack gets away with tons more stuff than his sisters simply because I like him best. And really, just look at those big fluffy paws and scraggly ears – can you blame me here? You know you’d let him sit on your furniture.
