About Honey Garlic Chicken Wings
It took me a while to warm up to baked crispy chicken wings, but now that I have, I can’t get enough.
Thankfully an old friend of mine has been a good sport about it, having wings for dinner multiple nights a week without a single complaint. And I hope he continues to humor me and my obsession, because now that I’ve got a honey garlic chicken wings recipe I love, it’s going to be showing up on our weekly menu for the foreseeable future.
And really, can you blame me? What’s there not to love about this dish?
It’s “crispy baked chicken wings outsides and tender insides, drenched in a sticky honey garlic glaze” we’re talking about here.
That’s like five wins in one sentence.
They’re that good.
How long to bake chicken wings
There are a couple different methods, but when baking raw chicken wings, you can use any one of these three:
- 400 degrees F for 40-45 minutes (my favorite).
- 375 degrees F for 50-55 minutes.
- 350 degrees F for 55-60 minutes.
However, no matter what cook time you prefer, always check your wings before taking them out of the oven. The juices should run clear and a heat thermometer should have the internal temperature for 165 degrees F.
Also, be sure to check that the skin is browned and crispy to your liking.
Can you freeze chicken wings?
Yes, you totally can!
To freeze, allow the chicken wings to cool completely and then transfer to a freezer bag, removing as much air as possible before sealing. Baked chicken wings can be frozen for up to three months.
When ready to eat, let the chicken wings thaw in the refrigerator overnight, then bake the chicken wings for 25-30 minutes at 325 degrees F or until heated through.

How to make honey garlic chicken wings
This next part is only a photo tutorial of the recipe steps. If you’re looking for the full recipe measurements and instructions, scroll down to Recipe Details.
Step 1 – In a large bowl, add raw chicken wings. Drizzle on some olive oil, season with salt and pepper, and then toss with a pair of tongs or a spatula so that the wings are coated.
Step 2 – Place the chicken wings on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Step 3 – Bake!
Step 4 – While the chicken bakes, prepare the sauce. Boil the honey, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and chili powder (if using) for three or four minutes or until the sauce is reduced and has a thick consistency and a dark golden color. Remove the saucepan from heat and cover.
Step 5 – Working quickly, add the baked chicken wings into a bowl and pour the honey garlic sauce on top. This step works best if both the sauce and the chicken are hot so that the sauce will be more fluid. Use a spatula to toss and turn the chicken wings until they’re coated in sauce. If you’re having trouble, just be patient; the sauce will eventually thin and cover all of the chicken wings.
Step 6 – Garnish with chopped cilantro and enjoy!

Honey Garlic Chicken Wings
These honey garlic chicken wings are baked in the oven until nice and crispy and then coated in a sticky honey garlic sauce. Easy to adjust the recipe to make the wings mild in flavor or add a little extra kick!
Ingredients
Instructions
For the Baked Chicken Wings
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper, then set aside.
In a large bowl, add raw chicken wings. Drizzle with olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Use a pair of tongs or a spatula to gently toss the chicken wings to coat.
- Arrange chicken wings in an even layer on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake chicken wings for 40 minutes or until juices run clear, turning them half way through.
For the Honey Garlic Sauce
In a medium saucepan over medium-high heat, bring honey, soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and chili powder (optional) to a rapid boil. Allow to simmer, stirring occasionally, for 3-4 minutes or until sauce is reduced by 1/2.
- Remove saucepan from heat. Cover and set aside.
Putting it all together
Working quickly, place baked chicken wings in a bowl, then pour prepared honey garlic glaze on top. This step works best if both the chicken and the sauce are hot. Use a spatula to toss the chicken wings until they are coated in the glaze. Note: It's okay if the glaze is thick, but it should pour easily. If it doesn't, microwave the glaze for 30 seconds at a time until it's liquid again, then quickly pour over the chicken wings.
- Serve honey garlic chicken wings immediately with chopped cilantro as garnish (optional).
Made them last night they were a hit! The guys loved them
Did you cover your chicken with aluminum foil?
No if you cover them they will not get crispy
The wings are in the oven! I’ll post once they are ready! 😊
Very tasty. We tweaked the recipe by using 2 teaspoons of sriracha sauce instead of chili powder, more soy sauce, more garlic and ginger grated on a microplane,
50 minutes bake time, cook sauce during last 3 minutes in small non-stick pan, add wings into mixing bowl, pour in hot sauce and toss. Love it! Maybe chopped scallions as garnish instead of cilantro.
Thanks for this recipe.
Star rating not working. With my tweaks, I’ll give the recipe 5 stars and pop some more in the oven.
Very nice recipe
This recipe is so delicious and so easy! I made this for a wing night last month and everyone loved it. I can’t wait to make it again this week for a New Years get together!
Got a big thumbs up from my an old friend of mine! He’s Chinese and loves Chinese food but these were a hit!
Btw I tried putting the sauce on and throwing back in to broil for about 5 more minutes, and the sauce soaked in and glazed up really nicely!
My kids and I are addicted to these wings! I found this recipe a week ago, and I’ve already made them twice. The second time I made a double batch. They disappear so fast!
It wouldn’t let me click on the star rating. I tried to give it 5 stars, but I would have given it 10 if I could! You HAVE to try these wings.
Didnt have any ginger in the house so made it without. But still finger lickinnng goood. Will definitely make another batch next week!!
Will be making these next weekend!
I never fry food, but my family REALLY wanted some fried wings. So I lightly fried the wings for about 5 mins. After 10 mins of letting the oil drain, I soaked them in the sauce, and baked them. The remaining sauce was used for dipping. I tripled the recipe! LOL. My guys loved this recipe and can’t wait to have it again.
This recipe looks amazing! I’m so excited to try it.What would be something good to serve with this?
I broiled (low) for an extra 6-7 minutes after mixing with the sauce. Amazing!!
These wings taste like candy. There’s way too much honey in them.
Shut up
if it to sweet for you then do not make them

Forgot to leave a rating!
Could we do this in an instant pot?
Simple, quick and easy. Very tasty. Kids were not keen hearing honey was going in but then loved it! I put half the amount of honey and still works.
Really yummy and easy to make! Thank you!!!
Sooo good! I also added fish sauce and mirin. Also more soy sauce.
Probably could have used less honey but otherwise still delicious!
Love this recipe. The directions are fantastic. Easy and delicious. Crowd pleaser. Thank you!

These were deee-licious. Will be making them again.
I love this recipe
My wings stuck to the parchment paper. I must have missed something. Still delicious.
Great recipe but very sweet. In the future, I’ll be using less honey and more chili powder.
Not sure what garlic you used. Or fresh ginger. I made them they were ok, I think I had right ingredients.
Making these right now in the air fryer…cooking at 350 for 10 minutes , flipped cooked for another 15. Made the sauce used 1/4 tsp ground ginger and used samba oelek instead of chili powder. Tossed wings in the sauce and air fried for a few more minutes, served with the rest of the sauce on the side. Pretty darn good!
