About Pumpkin Pie Spice Recipe
Whenever fall rolls around, I find myself following the same pattern time and time again:
1 – I want to make pumpkin spice everything. And I know many of you are probably rolling your eyes, already so over the whole pumpkin scene, and I wish I could spare you but I don’t think I can help it. I am a white girl and I may own a pair of yoga pants or six. It’s like as soon as the first day of fall arrives all I can think about is leaves turning, lattes at Starbucks, and where I’ll buy my next pair of Uggs. I just can’t seem to help myself.
2 – I have cans and cans of pumpkin puree (because, SALE!) but I never seem to have any pumpkin pie spice to go along with it. Because such a thing would imply proper planning and it appears my strategy in life is a lot like all those yoga pants I own: not quite appropriate for the moment but I’m here now so I’m going to try to try to make it look like I know what I’m doing.
And while I’d love to blame my local grocer for this pumpkin puree to pumpkin spice ratio anomaly (seriously, they need to stock these two items side. by. side.), I know that I’m the only one at fault here. It’s like when I’m in the midst of my pumpkin pumpkin pumpkin haze I completely forget that pumpkin puree isn’t the only ingredient you need to create the best fall treats. In fact, pumpkin puree isn’t all that great without the pumpkin pie spice.
That’s right. I said it.
Pumpkin puree needs pumpkin pie spice.
So while I never seem to have any store-bought pumpkin pie spice on hand, I almost always have the key ingredients to make pumpkin pie spice: cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and nutmeg. And because of this, for the past couple of years, the minute fall arrives I throw together this quick recipe so that I have homemade pumpkin pie spice on hand whenever I need to
And because of this, for the past couple of years, the minute fall arrives I throw together this quick recipe so that I have homemade pumpkin pie spice on hand whenever I need to be a basic white girl enjoy the best flavor of fall. I just keep the homemade pumpkin pie spice in a container next to my other spices and it saves me a lot of time (and money!) throughout the holiday season.
