These tender, cake-like chocolate donuts are coated in a sweet chocolate glaze and can be baked in a pan in 30 minutes or less. No messy frying necessary!
Chocolate Cake Donuts ‣ 1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour ‣ 3/4 cup granulated sugar ‣ 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder ‣ 3/4 teaspoon baking soda ‣ 1/2 teaspoon salt ‣ 1/2 cup sour cream ‣ 1/3 cup milk ‣ 1 large egg ‣ 3 tablespoon canola oil ‣ 1 teaspoon vanilla extract ‣ sprinkles, for decorating, optional Chocolate Glaze ‣ 1/2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips ‣ 2 tablespoon unsalted butter ‣ 1 tablespoon heavy whipping cream
1
In a medium bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
2
In a larger bowl, whisk the sour cream, milk, egg, canola oil, and vanilla.
3
Add the dry and wet ingredients together, then mix thoroughly until the batter is smooth.
4
Spray a donut pan with cooking spray, then fill each cavity in the donut pan about 3/4 of the way. Once done, send the donuts off to bake!
While the donuts cool, prepare the glaze by microwaving the chocolate chips, butter, and heavy whipping cream. Mix until the chips have melted and you have a smooth sauce.
6
Once baked and cooled, dip the tops of the chocolate cake donuts into the glaze, then transfer to a wire cooling rack to set. Be sure to add any sprinkles while the glaze is still wet.
