Add the smooth flavor of caramel and a dash of flaky sea salt to this iconic treat to create soft and gooey squares of salted caramel Rice Krispies treats.

INGREDIENTS

‣ 8 1/2 cup Rice Krispies cereal ‣ 16 ounce mini marshmallows, divided ‣ 1/2 cup salted butter ‣ 14 ounce sweetened condensed milk ‣ 20 soft caramels, unwrapped ‣ 3/4 teaspoon salt ‣ 3/4 teaspoon vanilla extract ‣ caramel sauce, for topping (optional) ‣ flaky sea salt, for topping (optional)

In a stockpot, melt the butter and mix in the sweetened condensed milk.

START THE SAUCE

ADD THE CARAMEL

Add the caramels and vanilla to the stockpot, then stir until melted and thoroughly mixed.

ADD MARSHMALLOWS

Add some of the mini marshmallows, then stir until melted and thoroughly mixed.

ADD THE CEREAL

Pour in the Rice Krispies cereal and the remaining mini marshmallows, then mix well.

POUR INTO A DISH

Add the Rice Krispies treat mixture to a parchment paper or aluminum foil lined 9×13 baking dish. Use a piece of parchment paper to gently press down so everything is an even layer.
